Half head & full head highlights

The difference between half and full head highlights

A full head of highlights involves lightening every section of your head, while partial or half head highlights are more strategic. With partial highlights, the focus is on specific areas, typically around the face and hairline, to create a sculpted look.

While the technique generally remains consistent, the outcomes of full head or half head highlights can vary significantly. Highlights are ideal for those aiming to lighten their hair. However, blonde hair comes in various shades, so it's essential to consider how light you want to go.

So which highlights to choose?

There are a few things to think about when choosing which highlights to choose from. Firstly, you’ll need to look at the condition of your hair. If your hair has had a lot of chemical or heat damage in the past, then a full head of highlights might be too much for your hair to cope with.

However, you can add a treatment to your highlight appointment, such as Olaplex, to protect your hair, we'll never go ahead with a service if your hair’s health will be compromised. Therefore, a half head might help you achieve a lighter look without damaging your hair beyond repair.

Secondly, think about your current hair and what you want to achieve with highlights. If you already have balayage, a half head of highlights can elevate your blonde further. Conversely, if you have virgin hair and seek a big change, a full head of highlights is the way forward.

Lastly, consider your preference for dimension. While both methods can be adjusted to enhance or minimise dimension, a full head of highlights generally offers less opportunity for creating dimension. If you adore a multi-tonal appearance, a half head might suit you better.
